Gastric Ulcer Investigation

Our portable video gastroscope allows us (and our clients!) to visualise otherwise inaccessible areas of horses' bodies! You will be able to see the results at your yard instantly via the monitor.

When booking gastroscopy, we require the horse to be starved overnight, ensuring an empty stomach allowing a clear visual of the stomach lining. With this in mind, we usually try to book appointments first thing in the morning, and two vets will attend to carry out the procedure which is typically performed on your horse under light sedation.

Investigation

Our gastroscope allows for images to be clearly seen on a large monitor, which means that our vets can show you the findings at the time and chat about the case. We find that this helps make understanding the diagnosis easier - after all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Our 3-metre video gastroscope is used to investigate gastric disease in your horse, enabling our vets to access your horse's stomach and observe the findings immediately as they are relayed to the portable screen.  This means that the vet and the client can instantly see what they are dealing with and establish a treatment plan immediately.

There are a mix of paste treatments, injectable options and powders available which the veterinary surgeon will discuss with you, developing a plan that works for both horse and owner.
